And here i thought the awards were done--but no! It's All About Us and The Fruit of My Lipstick are both up for the American Christian Fiction Writers "Book of the Year" award in the young adult category. Wow. I feel like sending chocolate to the hard-working judges to say thank you! Winners will be announced in September--but I'll be in Europe then so I'll have to find out over the net.
Are you ready to go back to school? Here in Silicon Valley the kids go back on August 24, which seems way early to me. But hey--I'm going back to school, too! I'm starting an MFA degree in January at Seton Hill University, where I teach. I've been looking for a terminal degree program for quite some time, and since I go out to Pennsylvania every year to teach anyway, it seems tailor made for me. Can't wait to get started! I mean, how much fun can you have writing a steampunk thesis? Does it get better than that?

Awards season is nearly concluded, thank goodness! While It's All About Us and The Fruit of My Lipstick didn't win this year, being shortlisted for both awards for both 2008 releases was so much fun--and an excuse to buy new shoes! I have my Christy Award of Excellence medal hanging proudly on my wall, giving me encouragement as I work on my next book.
Hope you're having a great summer--we're sweltering here in California. Who would have thought that fog would be a good thing--but we're glad to see it every evening to cool things down. Have fun in the pool, and don't forget your sunblock!

Recording artist and Grammy nominee Jaci Velasquez loved book four, Who Made You a Princess? "What a fun read!" she said. "Every little girl dreams of being a princess, but there's a lot more to it than one might think." Check out Jaci's music here or download her songs on iTunes.
And RT BookReviews magazine gave it four stars: "Adina shows that teenagers can lead the life God wants for them—one of sexual purity—and still be popular. She does a fabulous job of addressing teen issues like relationships and temptation while also stressing the importance of developing a relationship with Christ."
Who Made You a Princess? hits the shelves the first week of May. And check out amazon.com, where book five, Tidings of Great Boys, and book six, The Chic Shall Inherit the Earth, just became available for pre-order ... complete with adorable covers. I swear, these books have the cutest covers ever.

The Fruit of My Lipstick is a Christy finalist!
The Christy Award finalists were announced at the Christian Book Expo in Dallas, TX, on March 21, and guess who was among them! The awards' purpose is "to recognize novelists and novels of excellence in several genres of Christian fiction." Head over and check out the complete list here!
The winners will be announced at the ICRS show in Denver on July 11, 2009.
Mandisa loves book three!
Check out what the American Idol finalist, contemporary Christian artist, and author had to say about Be Strong and Curvaceous:
“Reading Be Strong & Curvaceous flooded me with memories of my high school days. While the surroundings and scenes were different, there were certain staples that read just like my life: the close friendships, the longing to be accepted, the desire for my first real boyfriend, and most of all, being introduced to Jesus. I only wish Shelley Adina’s All About Us series had been around in my day. I recommend it for any young adult who wants to escape to another world and find that they are not alone in their feelings and experiences.”
